BLOOD - BLOODTYPE
BLOOD's first maxi-single is only four tracks long, but they're four amazing tracks that really set the tone for the band.
01. Maria:
This starts off the release nicely with some good guitaring and then Dai's voice kicking in. It took a few listens to finally really get into Dai's voice in the song, but once I did, I loved it. Some really nice guitaring and a good pumping beat that really gets you into the song. A very nice way to start this off.
02. BLOOD:
Starts off with some creepy synth and some drumming followed up by an ultra-smooth bassline and then the guitar kicks in. Dai's voice in this song is just absolutely incredible and the lyrics themselves are just as good. The chorus is probably my favorite part of this song, amazing, amazing stuff. But wait, that's not it... We've got a female vocalist here too... She's got a beautiful voice and it only adds to the incredible atmosphere this song creates. The second time the chorus hits it becomes a duet between the two and it's just so good! We get a little guitar solo and the song fades out for a few seconds only to return with one more (slightly modified) chorus. I love this song to death...
03. Canary:
The song kicks in with some really moody drumming followed by some gorgeous guitar and bass. The tone set within the first few seconds let's you know that this is going to be dark. Dai's pained vocal delivery really meshes well with the music and tells the story in this song is trying to get across with utmost believability. One of my all time favorite jrock songs, bar none.
04. Mebious' Loop:
Some nice guitaring at the beginning followed by an electronic beat. They've got a pretty nice echo effect with the vocals in this one and some good kind of subliminal stuff too. Musically, it's not as impressive as the others, but it's not a bad song overall and it's a nice way to end off this first release.
Overall: Even though it's only four tracks, it's a great CD. BLOOD and Canary are two of my favorite songs of all time as the atmosphere they create and the emotion shown in them is just incredible. I've probably given this more play time than a good majority of my jrock collection. I highly recommend it.
